One of my Own
On the last day of life, I'm to be with one of my own.
Create a family with him.
Love him 'til i can't no more.
He's got to be one of my own.
It doesn't matter if he's yellow, green, or purple,
He's got to be one of my own.
If not, my presence no longer lies in the eyes of my family.
I'm a shame.
I do not exist.
Therefore, he's got to be one of my own.

- Liridona, Age 16

Life is not Easy
Life does not come at you easy
There are wild ends of life
There are times when you may wonder
"Will life ever be fair or easy?"
Life will never be easy or fair
Life is not fair if a little child or baby dies before he/she even gets a chance to live life
Life is not easy and it will be a miracle if it was easy
Children and teenagers strive everyday to get an education
You see different people from different age groups trying to survive police brutality and racial discrimination
Life is never easy or fair

- Amanda, Age 16

Untitled
My family is all I got
There may be times when they are not there
But I look on the bright side
There are others who are always there
My family is always there
We love each other dearly, unconditionally
You might see families like mine
But we are superior
A love so strong
You can never break us apart
Don't even try
You might hurt yourself
That is how strong we are
We are superior
You can never break us apart
Our love is strong, tied together by every member

- Amanda, Age 16

Both
I am love,
I am hate,
I am both,
I am a building standing next to another,
Even and strong.
I am a shark tearing on a carcass,
Fighting to keep my own.
I am a penguin,
Sharing watch of young
With another.

I am love,
I am hate,
I am both,
In agreement.
I am a cop and a con,
Being right then wrong.
I am a tree bending back,
To see the other's side.
I am a washer,
With a dryer to complete my wash.

I am love,
I am hate,
I am both in trembling ace.
I am an oracle,
Seeing what can truly be.
I am a flute,
Waiting for my wind.
I am a savior,
Waiting to save.

I am love,
I am hate,
I am both in congregate.
I am the wind,
Stopped by the earth.
I am fire,
Put out by water.
I am water,
Waiting to be brought
Higher to the sun.

- Steven, Age 14
