
The Brooklyn Vanguard is a dynamic group of Library patrons between the ages of twenty-one and thirty-something committed to expanding the role of the Brooklyn Public Library in the intellectual life of the City of New York. Founded in 2007 by a committee of founding members, this special membership group seeks:
- To promote the vital cultural and societal impact of the Library's resources to Brooklynites
- To foster a younger generation of friends, advocates supporting the mission of the Library
- To raise funds for the Brooklyn Public Library's programs and services through membership and Vanguard events and programs
- To expand the next generation of donors for the Library
The Brooklyn Vanguard hosts a number of fundraising events throughout the year (i.e., Library After Dark, Gala After Party, etc.). The Brooklyn Vanguard also participates in several programmatic events, as well as a host of library volunteer activities.
Members of the Brooklyn Vanguard are asked to support the Library in the following ways:
- Become a Member
- Attend the two yearly fundraising events, help promote Vanguard events and sell tickets
- Assist in soliciting corporate sponsorships and donations for Vanguard events
- Encourage friends to become Vanguard Members
- Attend occasional meetings of the Brooklyn Vanguard (between 4 - 6 meetings per year; either in person or via conference call)

- Invite-only BPL Walking Tour for two
- Invitation to opening receptions for BPL exhibitions

- Discounted admission for one guest to two Brooklyn Vanguard events per year (wherever applicable)
