Summertime Fun
As the summer days quickly arrive, the next few months will be full of fun in the sun accompanied with loads of outdoor activities. When we think of summer, the first thing that might come to mind is fun under the sun, on the beach and at home. Slipping out of our cold weather clothing and slipping into our summer gear. Sitting under a tree while enjoying the company of a friend or just reading a good book.
OOOps wait! Lets not get too excited. Before we all get ready to go out and enjoy the summer we need to remember a few things.
It is extremely important to protect yourself from the sun’s harmful rays and limit the exposure to the sun between the hours of 10 am to 4 pm when the sun’s rays are at its strongest. Make it a habit to put on sunscreen or sun block lotion even on cloudy days. Apply sunscreens or sun blocks 30-45 minutes prior to sun exposure. Do wear sunglasses and if at all possible, do wear a hat.
The secret to a long life is to stay busy, get plenty of exercise and don’t drink too much. Then again, don’t drink too little. - Hermann Smith-Johannson, 103 year old cross-country skier, quoted in The New York Times, March 20, 1979.
