Trip Tips

  • Children 18 months and up will enjoy the exploring the old subway cars and driving their very own bus!
  • This is a great place to visit on a rainy, particularly in the summer when it is not very crowded.
  • Strollers are welcome at the museum, but there is no elevator and there are a couple of flights of stairs.
  • There is no food at the museum so you may want to bring food with you or eat nearby.

Pick up some Middle Eastern fare at this famous gourmet food market. You'll have to eat your purchases in a nearby park.
 
  1. In the morning before you leave home, tell your child about the trip to the Transit Museum. Tell her about the subway cars and buses you will be seeing.
  2. Take the bus or subway to get your child excited about the museum!
  3. Attend one of the museum's story programs.
  4. Spend about an hour exploring the museum. Stay longer if your child is interested.
  5. Have a snack or lunch in a nearby restaurant or park.
  6. Stop by the Brooklyn Heights branch and check out some books about subways and buses.
  7. Take the bus back home just and talk about what you saw that day at the museum.
  8. Don't forget to sing "The Wheels on the Bus" at least once before naptime or bedtime.
