Trip Tips

  • A trip to the Brooklyn Children's Museum (BCM) is always fun. But in the winter, when parks, playgrounds and beaches are closed and the weather inhospitable, a trip to BCM can be very special for families. The wonderful family friendly atmosphere and interactive displays, even for the very young, are just what is needed to keep children engaged.
  • Visit "Totally Tots" for a wonderful, interactive experience for children under five.
  • BCM is free for children under 1 year of age.

Suggestions for your adventure

  1. At breakfast, talk with your child about what you may see at BCM. If your child is not yet talking, describe what you will be doing and what you will see.
  2. In the morning, visit "Totally Tots" and meet other parents and kids from Brooklyn. Stay for about an hour or longer, if your child is interested. Talk with your child about what they are doing as they play. Remember, Play = Learning!
  3. Pick one of the other exhibits to look at BCM. If your child is old enough, let them decide for themselves.
  4. Stop for lunch in BCM's snack area or eat lunch in a nearby restaurant.
  5. If your child is very young, this may be plenty for his or her first visit. If your child is older, continue your BCM visit or travel to one of BCM's Heart of Brooklyn partners nearby (The Brooklyn Museum, Prospect Park, Prospect Park Zoo, Brooklyn Botanic Gardens, or Brooklyn Public Library).
