About First Five Years @ BPL

The love of reading is the best gift you can give a child. Why? Reading helps young minds develop. And, it's so much fun!

In the first five years of life, nearly 50% of a child's learning occurs. Early reading experiences lay the foundation for future learning to come. Through experiences with books in language-rich environments, young children develop the skills they will need to be successful in school and in life.

First Five Years at Brooklyn Public Library is here to help. This innovative BPL initiative covers a spectrum of early literacy programs and services for children birth through age five, and it's available at all of BPL's 60 neighborhood libraries, to make an even greater difference in the lives of children during their early years.

As parents, grandparents and caregivers, we must read to the babies and children in our lives. First Five Years at BPL can help this be the first step in your process.
