Education & Job Information

Get help with your job hunt, find a college, prepare for a test, all at the Education & Job Information Center (EJIC).

Job seekers are encouraged to participate in our Skills Training & Education Project (STEP) programs.

The EJIC is a free service for job hunters, career changers, and students of all ages. The center is open whenever the library is open. Telephone: 718-230-2177.

Begin your visit by talking to a librarian who can help you find the resources you need.

Or, online, start with our Resource Guides, which point you to web sites and community agencies.

Here are just some of the services you can find in the EJIC:

Job Training and Career Guidance Information

The division has an extensive collection of books and other resources on careers and career training programs. To locate information on job training and educational programs, use the catalogs from the continuing education programs. For career information, use the New York State Department of Labor's Careerzone Web site (www.nycareerzone.org) as a place to start your search.

Education Information

Thinking about college? Consult the Book of Majors to locate the colleges that offer the particular major that you are interested in studying. Then use our directories of two- or four-year colleges, or information on international programs, summer-study programs, distance education, vocational schools, specialized schools, historically black colleges and universities. We also have materials on the college application process, including application forms for CUNY and SUNY.

Financial Aid Information

Review our extensive collections of directories to locate scholarships, contests, loans, and grants for college study. The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) application can be picked up in this department. The FAFSA form can be used to apply for PELL and TAP grants.

Exam Preparation Information

Study guides for the following tests can be borrowed: CLEP, GED, GMAT, GRE, LSAT, MCAT, NYSTCE, PRAXIS, Regents exams, SAT, TOEFL, and many certification exams. Study books are available for entry-level New York City civil-service exams. No reference copies of test books are kept, so come early to borrow your copy. The application forms for the CLEP, GED, GMAT, GRE, LSAT, MCAT, PRAXIS, SAT, TOEFL, and ACT are available in this department.
