Collections Connections is a new partnership with Brooklyn Public Library (BPL) to enable BCM to provide museum education experiences through a series of pop-up Collections Connections community galleries installed at library branches across the borough.

Made possible with the support of the Charles H. Revson Foundation, the galleries are being displayed in libraries throughout the borough, allowing patrons to see objects and artifacts from the Museum’s collections exploring animals and nature, transportation, cultures around the world, and more. Each gallery contains a booklet with object information, and librarians will incorporate the objects into programs and share books with similar themes. Some of the objects include head wraps and curling irons, dolls, sea sponges, petrified wood, and more.

Collections Connections will appear in 20 BPL branches and is the first major project in the U.S. to leverage a museum collection for a sustained series of exhibits and programs sited in public library branches. Created with librarians from across BPL’s system, Collections Connections are a joint effort to increase access to museum experiences for children and caregivers while allowing librarians to augment their book-based programming to create deeper engagements with a topic or idea. When fully launched, Collections Connections will serve 1/3 of all BPL library branches, an estimated 30 librarians, and approximately 3,000 children and caregivers.
