Begun in 1901 in rented quarters at Smith and Carroll Streets, the library, formerly named the Carroll Park Branch, moved in 1905 to its current Carnegie building designed by William B. Tubby. At its community's request, the branch was renamed the Carroll Gardens Branch in 1973, after extensive renovations.
