Spring Semester Studio Art
Join us for this 8 week series with Victoria Carrique
It's not Valentine’s Day, but I am feeling very grateful and filled with LOVE this month. My feelings led me to explore the POP ARTIST- JIM DINE, and so his art will be the study and focus of our spring semester! Jim used hearts to explore relationships with color, texture, and composition. We will begin with a BURST of color and recreate one of Jim Dine’s very famous heart paintings, using tempura paint and wide brushes with a quick-stroke technique. Next, we will experiment with positive and negative space (like Dine) and practice rub-art, using colorful oil pastels and a template. Jim grew up in his grandfather’s hardware store, and came to appreciate the beauty of hand tools. Therefore, for our last project, we will learn how to transform plain, old, ordinary tools, like paint bushes and scissors, into a work of art!
